Searching for a Christian church in the Middle Tennessee Area?

1. Christ is the Center!

It really should go without saying, but as you are searching for a church, make sure Christ is always at the center of the church's initiatives, outreach, and activities. In John 15:32, Jesus said, “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto myself.” Search for a church that does not feature personalities, programs, or projects over the mission and mandates of Jesus Christ.

2. You are looking for a community!

The fundamental aspect of any church should be the community of believers or the assembly. Remember, the whole point is to be apart of a community that you can do life "together" with. There is nothing more rewarding than having somewhere to go when life happens and finding support when you need it! As you are searching, find a community you can BELONG TO!

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24–25 NIV

3. You are looking for a connection!

There can be many things that give you a sense of connection to a local church, but most importantly, you should feel a sense of connection to the ministry and the ministry's objectives. Are you drawn to the teachings of the pastor? Are you drawn to the outreach of the ministry? Are you drawn to the vision of the ministry? Can you see yourself growing and getting active here? Is there a need within the ministry you can help fulfill? Your connection to the ministry should involve your contribution. It’s not always what the church can do for you, but ask yourself, “What can I do to help this church?”

4. You are looking for a cause!

One of the things people struggle with most in life is identifying their purpose as well as their impact in the lives of others. In your search for a ministry, find one you can get plugged into and utilize your gifts, talents, and contributions. Resist the urge to “People Watch” and avoid the expectancy of the church to serve you every time! Jump in, roll your sleeves up, and do the work of the ministry. Someone needs you!

5. Church Culture is Changing!

Finally, resist the temptation to look for churches that remind you of what you are familiar with or believe everything you believe. There are no perfect churches just as there are no perfect people. Because of the effects of the pandemic, churches have had to make many adjustments. Remember, attendance is low in most churches, people are now accustomed to streaming, and church leaders are under stress. Many churches have made changes to their approach, culture, and processes, all while working with limited staff. This is why the church NEEDS YOU! Happy Hunting!
